4-Day Tanzania Safari: Tanzania’s Classic Wildlife Circuit
Explore Tours
This 4-Day Tanzania Safari is a strong choice for travellers who want to experience Tanzania’s most celebrated wildlife areas in a short but well-paced trip. The route combines Tarangire National Park, Serengeti National Park and the Ngorongoro Crater—three destinations with very different landscapes and excellent game viewing.
You will begin among Tarangire’s elephants and baobab trees, continue to the wide plains of Serengeti National Park and finish with a full game drive inside the Ngorongoro Crater. The itinerary has been designed to give you quality time in each area instead of trying to cover too much ground in one day.
EKO Tanzania Adventures runs this as a private safari, allowing the schedule to work around your arrival date, group size and accommodation preference. You will travel in a 4×4 safari Land Cruiser with a pop-up roof, driven by a professional English-speaking guide who understands the parks, wildlife behaviour and road conditions.
This Tanzania safari is suitable for couples, families, friends, solo travellers and anyone looking for a complete Northern Circuit safari in four days.

Detailed 4-Day Tanzania Safari Itinerary
Day 1 of 4-Day Tanzania Safari : Arusha to Tarangire National Park
Your 4-Day Tanzania Safari begins with pickup from your hotel in Arusha. Collection from Arusha Airport or Kilimanjaro International Airport can be arranged if your flight arrival fits the safari schedule.
After meeting your EKO Tanzania Adventures driver-guide, you will leave Arusha and travel towards Tarangire National Park. The drive takes approximately two to three hours and passes through local towns, open countryside and Maasai areas.
Tarangire National Park is one of northern Tanzania’s most distinctive wildlife areas. It is known for its ancient baobab trees, seasonal swamps and the Tarangire River. The river is particularly important during the dry season because it attracts many animals searching for water.
After entering the park, begin your game drive. Elephants are one of Tarangire’s main highlights. You may see small family groups, young calves moving close to their mothers or large bulls feeding in the woodland. The park also supports buffaloes, giraffes, zebras, wildebeest, impalas, gazelles, warthogs, baboons and many bird species.
Predators such as lions, leopards, cheetahs and hyenas also live in Tarangire. Wildlife is never staged or guaranteed, but your guide will use their experience to search the areas where animals are most likely to be found.
You will stop for a packed lunch at a designated picnic site inside the park. After lunch, continue with an afternoon game drive through different habitats, including woodland, open grassland and river areas.
In the late afternoon, leave the park and drive to your lodge or camp near Karatu, Mto wa Mbu or the Ngorongoro highlands. Enjoy dinner and rest for the night.
Meals included: Lunch and dinner
Overnight: Lodge or camp in Karatu / Ngorongoro area
Day 2 of 4-Day Tanzania Safari : Tarangire Area to Serengeti National Park
After breakfast, depart towards Serengeti National Park. The journey takes you through the Ngorongoro Conservation Area, where the scenery gradually changes from highland forest and crater landscapes into the vast grasslands of the Serengeti.
You will pass through the Ngorongoro Conservation Area and may stop at the crater rim viewpoint if time and weather allow. From the viewpoint, you can look down towards the Ngorongoro Crater before continuing towards the Serengeti.
The route itself can feel like part of the safari. You may see Maasai herders with cattle, zebras, giraffes, wildebeest and other animals as you approach the plains. After entering Serengeti National Park, your game drive begins.
The Serengeti is Tanzania’s best-known wildlife destination and one of the most important ecosystems in Africa. Its name comes from the Maasai word Siringet, meaning endless plains. The open landscape gives you a sense of space that is difficult to find anywhere else.
Depending on the season, you may see large herds of wildebeest and zebras moving across the plains. Serengeti is also a strong destination for predators. Lions are frequently seen resting under trees, on rocky kopjes or in open grassland. Leopards may be found in riverine trees, while cheetahs often prefer open areas where they can scan for prey.
Continue with an afternoon game drive as you travel towards your safari camp or lodge in the central Serengeti area. Arrive in time to settle in, enjoy dinner and listen to the sounds of the African night.
Meals included: Breakfast, lunch and dinner
Overnight: Safari camp or lodge in Serengeti National Park
Day 3 of 4-Day Tanzania Safari : Full-Day Serengeti Game Drive
Today is dedicated to exploring Serengeti National Park. After breakfast, leave for a full-day game drive with a packed lunch.
Your guide will choose the route according to wildlife movements, season, weather and recent sightings. Central Serengeti, also called Seronera, is one of the best areas for year-round wildlife viewing. It has rivers, kopjes, grassland and acacia woodland, creating habitats for many animals.
You may see lions resting together in the shade, elephant herds moving slowly across the grassland, giraffes browsing on acacia trees and zebras or wildebeest grazing in large groups. Serengeti is also home to buffaloes, hyenas, jackals, hippos, warthogs, impalas, gazelles, mongooses and many bird species.
The famous Great Migration moves through different parts of the Serengeti and Ngorongoro ecosystem during the year. The exact location depends on rainfall and grass conditions. If the migration is near your route during your travel dates, your guide will make the best effort to take you towards the herds. However, wildlife movement is natural and cannot be controlled or guaranteed.
You will have lunch in the bush at a safe picnic site, then continue exploring during the afternoon. A full day gives you time to slow down, watch animal behaviour and enjoy the changing colours of the Serengeti landscape.
Return to your camp or lodge in the evening for dinner and overnight.
Meals included: Breakfast, lunch and dinner
Overnight: Safari camp or lodge in Serengeti National Park
Day 4 of 4-Day Tanzania Safari: Serengeti to Ngorongoro Crater and Return to Arusha
After an early breakfast, depart Serengeti and travel back towards the Ngorongoro Conservation Area. You will enjoy a game drive on the way, with final opportunities to look for wildlife before reaching the crater.
Once at the Ngorongoro Crater rim, descend approximately 600 metres to the crater floor for your final game drive. The crater is the largest intact volcanic caldera in the world and one of the best places for wildlife viewing in Tanzania.
The crater floor has open grassland, swamps, lakes and small woodland areas. These habitats support a large population of animals throughout the year. You may see lions, buffaloes, zebras, wildebeest, hyenas, hippos, jackals and gazelles. The crater is also one of the most reliable places in Tanzania to search for black rhino.
Ngorongoro offers a chance to look for the Big Five: lion, leopard, elephant, buffalo and rhino. Leopards are difficult to see anywhere in the wild, and rhinos are rare, so no safari company can promise every sighting. Still, the crater gives you one of the strongest chances for a varied wildlife day.
You will stop for a picnic lunch near an official hippo pool area before continuing your afternoon game drive. Later, ascend the crater rim and drive back to Arusha.
Your EKO Tanzania Adventures guide will drop you at your hotel, Arusha Airport or Kilimanjaro International Airport, depending on your onward arrangements.

Best Time for This Tanzania Safari
This 4-Day Tanzania Safari can be enjoyed throughout the year.
The dry season, usually from June to October, is excellent for wildlife viewing. Animals are often easier to spot around water sources, particularly in Tarangire. The weather is generally dry and sunny.
The green season, from November to May, brings lush scenery, good birdlife and fewer visitors in some periods. The Great Migration changes location according to rainfall, so guests travelling during this period can receive advice from EKO Tanzania Adventures about the best Serengeti route for their dates.
